Margrethe II o Denmark
Margrethe II (Dens pronunciation: [mɑˈɡ̊ʁæːˀd̥ə], full name: Margrethe Alexandrine Þórhildur Ingrid; born 16 Aprile 1940) is the umwhile queen regnant o Denmark. As the eldest bairn o Keeng Frederick IX an Ingrid o Swaden, she succeedit her faither upon his daith on 14 Januar 1972. On her accession, she became the first female monarch o Denmark syne Margrethe I, ruler o the Scandinavian kintras in 1375–1412 durin the Kalmar Union.

Margrethe wis born in 1940, a week efter the invasion o Denmark bi Nazi Germany, but didnae become heiress presumptive till 1953, whan a constitutional amendment allooed weemen tae inherit the throne (efter it became clear that King Frederick wis unlikely tae hae ony sons). In 1967, she mairit Henri de Laborde de Monpezat (11 Juin 1934 - 13 Februar 2018), wi that she haes twa sons: Croun Prince Frederik (born 26 Mey 1968) an Prince Joachim (born 7 Juin 1969).
On 31 December 2023, Margrethe propaled her intention tae abdicate the throne; On 14 Januar 2024, efter 52 year on the throne, she wis succeedit bi her son Frederik.
