Jiaxian, Kaohsiung
Jiaxian (Cheenese: 甲仙; pinyin: Jiǎxiān; Wade–Giles: chia-hsien) is a rural tounship in Kaohsiung Coonty, Taiwan. Locatit far frae the coast, the tounship is regardit as a gateway tae Taiwan's Central Muntain Range.
Situatit at the intersection o Hieway 20 (the Soothren Cross-Island Hieway) an Hieway 21, Jiaxian's dountoun serves as a mercat centre for local farmers an tourists. The maist famous local crop is taro. Shops sell taro-flavored ice cream, taro cookies, an ither taro products. The tounship is an aa kent for its bamboo shoots an ploums.[1]
Jiaxian Brig wis torn doun bi rushin waters durin Typhoon Morakot in August 2009. It wis rebuilt wi a budget o NT$560 million an re-opened in Juin 2010.[1] The new brig is 300 meters lang, 21 meters wide, an is installed wi a lichtin seestem.[1]
