Gitega
Gitega (umwhile Kitega) is the caipital o Burundi. Locatit in the centre o the kintra, in the Burundian central plateau[2] roughly 62 kilometre (39 mi) southeast o Bujumbura (the umwhile caipital an lairgest ceety), Gitega (the seicont lairgest ceety[3]) wis the seat o the Kinrick o Burundi till its abolition in 1966.[4][note 1] In late Dizember 2018, Burundian preses Pierre Nkurunziza annooncit that he wad follae on a 2007 promise tae return Gitega its umwhile poleetical caipital status,[4] with Bujumbura remaining as economic capital and centre of commerce.[5] A vote in the Pairlament o Burundi made the chynge offeecial on 16 Januar 2019, wi aw branches o govrenment expectit tae muive in ower three year.[6]
