eeditIn August 2020, BBC Scotland made a documentary aboot him cawed "Playin the Game- Garry O'Connor". The programme charts O'connor's career an explores his troubles wi substance abuse, mental health issues an early retirement from football. Whilst bein interviewit fae the programme, O’Connor said he haed considerit suicide taewards the end o his playin career, citin the love ae his family an his responsibility taewards his bairns as motivation for seekin help throuch mental health counsellin [2].
In 2011 Garry wis arrested fae haeing coke on him ootside the Harp and Castle pub oan Leith Walk in Edinburgh[3].
