Eutimo Pinzón, aften considered the hero o Cutzamala, wis the general who defendit the toun durin the French Intervention o 1864.

The name Cutzamala comes frae a Nahuatl wird cutzamatl meanin "weasel"; hence, "Place o Weasels". It wis kent tae Purepecha speakers as "Apatzingán", which haes the same meanin. An alternative theory suggests the Nahuatl wird cutzamallot, meanin "rainbae."[1]
