eeditThe offeecial foondin o Caccamo wis no till 1093, when the Normans began biggin the castle on a rocky spur owerleukin a clint. The castle itsel is actually nou bein slowly convertit intae a conference center. On the grund level o the castle is a restaurant " A Castellana". Submergit athin the loch is a stane brig biggit in 1307 on the road that ance linkit the toun wi Palermo. The ceety conteens an attractive 11t-hunderyear cathedral, which wis remodeled in 1477 an 1614. On the side o the cathedral are twa kirks. The Chiesa dell'Anime del Purgatorio (Kirk o the Souls o Purgatory) featurs some stucco wirk in the eastren end an a 18t-hunderyear organ. In the dounstairs are catacombs whaur the skeletons o a nummer o tounsfowk lee in niches alang the waw, a burial practice that lastit frae the 17t hunderyear up tae 1863.
Syne the 1950s the toun itsel haes lost amaist hauf o its inhabitants tae emigration. Caccamo haulds some great views o the surroondin kintraside, includin the Rosmarina airtificial loch, which wis creatit bi a controversial dam biggit in 1993.
