Glacier butercup (Ranunculus glacialis)

Ranunculus (/[unsupported input]ræˈnʌŋkjʊləs/)[1] is a lairge genus o aboot 600 species o plants in the Ranunculaceae. Memmers o the genus include the buttercups, spearworts, watter crowfits an the lesser celandine.

Thay are maistly yerbaceous perennials wi bricht yellae or white flouers (if white, still wi a yellae centre); some are annuals or biennials. A few species hae orange or reid flouers. Thare are uisually five petals, but whiles sax, numerous, or none, as in R. auricomus. The petals are eften heichly lustrous, especially in yellae species. Buttercups uisually flouer in the ware, but flouers mey be foond throughoot the simmer, especially whaur the plants are growin as opportunistic colonisers, as in the case o gairden weeds.
