Astragalus is a muckle genus o aboot 3,000 species[1] o yerbs an smaa shrubs, belangin tae the legume faimily Fabaceae an the subfaimily Faboideae. The genus is native tae temperate regions o the Northren Hemisphere. Common names include milkvetch (maist species), locoweed (in North Americae, some species)[2] an goat's-thorn (A. gummifer, A. tragacanthus). Some fauch-flouered vetches is seimilar in appearance, but vetches is mair vine-lik.
