Arsuz at 36°25′N 35°53′E / 36.417°N 35.883°E / 36.417; 35.883 is a pairt o İskenderun destrict o Hatay Province. Distance tae İskenderun is 40 kilometre (25 mi) an tae Antakya (admeenistrative centre o Hatay Province) is 118 kilometre (73 mi). The population is 2317 [1] as o 2011.

Antakya (Antioch o the Antiquity) wis the caipital an Arsuz wis an important port. In 64 BC it wis annexed bi the Roman Empire an in 638 it wis incorporatit intae the Arabic Empire (Rashidun Caliphate). In 969 it wis captured bi Byzantine Empire an in 1084 bi Seljuk Turks. Later the toun wis annexed bi Crusades in 1099, bi Egyptian Mamluks in 1268 an bi Ottoman Turks in 1517.[2] Atween 1918 an 1938 the toun wis unner French Mandate for Sirie an Lebanon wi the rest o Iskenderun. In 1938 it wis a pairt o the independent Hatay Republic. On Juin 1939 Hatay legislative votit on disestablishin the Hatay State an joinin Turkey.
