The league started with the beginnin o the 2008–09 season, when it replacit the Regionalliga as the third tier fitbaw league in Germany. Bundesliga an the semi-profeesional Regionalliga, which became the fowert diveesion an initially consistit o three groups o 18 clubs playin separately.[1] In Germany, the 3. Liga is the heichest diveesion that a fitbaw club's reserve team can play in.
