The present municipality is a result o the latest local govrenment reform in Swaden. In 1974 the municipalities o Räng, Vellinge an Månstorp (aw three creatit throu amalgamation o even smawer units in 1952) amalgamatit wi the umwhile Toun o Skanör med Falsterbo tae form a new Vellinge Municipality.
The municipality is considered tae be ane o the maist economically well-aff in Swaden, poleetically govrened bi a stable majority o the leeberal conservative Moderate Pairty. Due tae its law taxes, Vellinge Municipality is mainly populatit bi middle-cless faimilies, mony commutin tae Malmö (pop. 250,000).
