Tarhuna (cried Tarhoona or Tarhunah an aw), (Arabic: ترهونة‎, is an auld ceity in Al Murgub Destrict in Libie, locatit 80 km sootheast o Tripoli. The ceity derives its name frae that o its pre-Roman-era inhabitants, a Berber tribe. The ceity wis kent as al-Boirat durin the 19t through mid 20t century, but assumed it current name efter Libie unthirldom.

The ceity, includin Msillata, haed an urban population o aboot 296,000 (est. 2003).[1] Tarhuna is a leadin producer o olive ile, cereals, figs, grapes, sparto grass, an various nuts.

History

In the ceity centre o Tarhuna, juist opposite the Tarhuna mosque, there is a memorial tae Ali Swidan Alhatmy who wis a hero in the 18 Juin 1915 Battle o El-Shqiga against the Italians. He wis captured in 1922 an hung bi the Italians in the toun square.
