Perito Moreno is a toun in the northwast o Santa Cruz Province, Argentinae, 25 km east o Loch Buenos Aires. It shoud no be ramfeeselt wi the Perito Moreno Naitional Pairk ower 300 km sooth bi road, or the Perito Moreno Glacier near El Calafate. The toun is the caipital o the Lago Buenos Aires Depairtment. It lees on the RN43, a pavit road which links Caleta Olivia on the Atlantic coast tae Los Antiguos an the Chilean frontier 60 km wast, an Ruta 40, runnin north an sooth.

In the 2010 census the toun haed a population o 4,617.[1]

History

The toun wis foondit in 1910, as a rest stop for travellers bi the springs which gie rise tae the Rio Deseado. The place wis cried Pari-Aike (meanin "place o reeds") bi the Tehuelche, but the toun wis offeecially cried Nacimiento in 1927. The name wis chyngit in 1944 tae Lago Buenos Aires, an in 1952 tae Perito Moreno, for the splorer Francisco Moreno.
