Araibien oryx

The Araibien oryx or white oryx (Oryx leucoryx) is a middlin antelope wi a distinct shouther knoit, lang, straicht horns, an a tappéit tail.[2] It is a bovid, an the smawest member o the Oryx genus, that bides in the desert an steppe auries o the Peninsula o Araibie. The Araibien oryx wis extinct in the wild by the airly 1970s, but wis hained in zoos an private preserves, and wis reintroduced intil the wild stertin in 1980.

In 1986, the Araibien oryx wis kindit as endangered on the IUCN Red List, and in 2011, it was the first animal tae be revertin tae vulnerable status efter a umwhile listin as extinct in the wild. It is listit in CITES Appendix I. In 2016, populations wis estimate at 1,220 individuals in the wild, includin 850 mature individuals, an 6,000–7,000 in captivity warldwide.

A Qatari oryx named "Orry" wis chosen as the official games mascot fur the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, an is shawn on aeroplane tail lugs belangin Middle Eastern airline Qatar Airways. It is Oman's naitional ainimal.
