She eventually became a friend o Madame de Montespan an wad an aa be the main governess tae the childer o King Louis an Montespan. In 1675, the king gae her the title o Marquise o Maintenon efter the name o her personal estate. A favour that incurred Madame de Montespan's jealousy. At court, she wis nou kent as Madame de Maintenon, as a result o King Louis buying her an estate at Maintenon. It haes been suspected that Maintenon an king Louis haed a private marriage ceremony atween October 1683 or Januar 1684. King Louis' wife Queen Marie Thérèse died in Julie 1683.
