Its name wis "El Revolcadero" an it was situated in Tecina.[3] This airfield haed a runwey (09-27), an hangar an a smaw staund which wis uised as control touer. The airfield wis for the awner's private uise an for emergencies an fumigation wirks.

In the year 1962, the island haed a lot o sanitar assistance problems, so studies tae build a airport in the island wur stairtit, but this project wis no carriet oot till 1975. Housomeivver, due tae the openin o the Tenerife Sooth Airport an a new maritime line wi the island, the project wis again delayed.

Feenally, in the 1980s, problems wi woondit evacuations necessitatit biggin a airport in the island, an on 27 Julie 1987 a greement for the construction o the airport wis signed.[4]

At the end o 1997, aw is ready tae begin wi the wirks an, at the end o 1994 the arifield haed a runwey (09-27), a aircraft pairkin an a taxi wey tae the runwey. The electit place tae build the instalations wis the "Meseta de los Acantilados" (Plateau Clints), which is locatit 2 kilometres frae the auld airfield of "El Revolcadero".

At the end o 1995, when Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (AENA), leeiterally "Spainyie Airports an Air Navigation", teuk ower the airport, a passenger terminal wis built, which wis inauguratit in 1992. This passenger terminal haes twa floors an we can see in it the teepical Canarian airchitectur.
