Knyaz or knez is a historical Slavic title, uised baith as a ryal an noble title, fir uisual pit ower intae Inglis aither as Prince or less common as Duke, an in Laitin soorces as comes or princeps, but the wird wis oreeginally derived frae the Proto-Germanic kuningaz (king).[1]

Till Boris I (852–889) the title o the Bulgarie monarchs wis Knyaz (кнѣзъ). His son, Simeon I (893–927) adoptit the title Tsar (Emperor) that became the title o the subsequent Bulgarie rulers.
