Isurus is a genus o mackerel shairks in the faimily Lamnidae, commonly kent as the mako shairks.
The twa livin species are the common shortfin mako shairk (I. oxyrinchus) an the rare langfin mako shairk (I. paucus). They range in lenth frae 2.5 tae 4.5 m (8.2 tae 14.8 ft), an hae a approximate maximum wicht o 800 kg (1,800 lb).
Several extinct species are kent frae fossils foond in sediments frae Cretaceous tae Quaternary (age range: 99.7 tae 0.781 million years ago).[1]
