Leetit as a vulnerable species, the lairge mammal is primarily foond in north-eastren Indie's Assam an in pertectit auries in the Terai o Nepal, whaur populations are confined tae the riverine grasslands in the fithills o the Himalayas.[2]

The Indian rhinoceros ance ranged throughoot the entire stretch o the Indo-Gangetic Plain, but excessive huntin reduced the naitural habitat drastically. Theday, aboot 3,000 rhinos live in the wild, 2,000 o which are foond in Indie's Assam alone.[3]

It is the fift lairgest land animal.
