Hoddam (English: Hoddom) is a clachan an ceevil pairish in the historical coonty o Dumfriesshire in Dumfries an Gallowa, Scotland. The earliest reference tae Hoddam is in a copy o an 8t century letter sent fae Alcuin tae Wulfhard, 'abbot o Hodda Helm' (Laitin: abbatem Hodda Helmi).

The 12t century Life of Saunt Kentigern (Saunt Mungo) bi Jocelyn o Furness records that Saunt Kentigern estaiblisht his see at Hoddam. Forby Jocelyn's wark, the're no evidence tae uphaud this. Houiver, the're strang material evidence evidence o a Northumbrian monastic site at Hoddam.[1]

Kirks eedit

Ormals remeen o the auld kirk biggit in 1610. A Roman altar stane, taen fae the 17t century kirk is biggit inside the airchle o the praisent kirk. The new Hoddam pairish kirk wis biggit in 1817 an recast in 1914.

Trailtrow Chaipel aince stuid on the hill leukin ower Hoddam Castle until it wis demolisht afore 1565 bi Sir John Maxwell o Hoddam. The Repentence Tour wis biggit on the site, houiver the Murray Mausoleum an ither graffs is locatit yet near the tour.
