The Heather peeper (Actitis hypoleucos) is a smaa Palearctic wader. This bird an its American sister species, (A. macularia), mak up the genus Actitis. Thay are parapatric an replace each ether geografically; stray birds o either species mey settle doun wi breeders o the ether an hybridize. Hybridization haes been reportit atween the Heather Peeper an the Green Sandpiper, a basal species o the closely relatit shank genus Tringa.
