Ford Quadricycle
The Ford Quadricycle wis the first vehicle developed bi Henry Ford.
On Juin 4, 1896 in a tiny workshop behind his home on 58 Bagley Avenue, Ford put the finishin touches on his petrol-pouered motor caur. Efter mair nor twa years o experimentation, Ford, at the age o 32, haed completit his first experimental automobile. He dubbed his creation the "Quadricycle," sae named acause it ran on fower bicycle tires. The success o the little vehicle led tae the foondin o the Henry Ford Company an then later the Ford Motor Company in 1903.
The twa cylinder ingine coud produce 4 horsepouer. The Quadricycle wis driven bi a chain. The transmission anerlie haed twa gears (first for 10 mph (16 km/h), 2nt for 20 mph (32 km/h)) an did no hae a reverse gear. The tiller-steered machine haed wire wheels an a 3 US gal (11 L) fuel tank unner the seat. Ford test drove it on Juin 4, 1896, efter various test drives, achievin a tap speed o 20 mph (32 km/h).
The day the oreeginal Quadricycle resides at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
