The fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) is possibly the best-kent salamander species in Europe. It is black wi yellae spots or stripes tae a varyin degree; some specimens can be nearly completely black while on ithers the yellae is dominant. Shades o reid an orange mey sometimes appear, either replacin or mixin wi the yellae accordin tae subspecies.[2] Fire salamanders can hae a very lang lifespan; ane specimen lived for mair nor 50 years in Museum Koenig, a German naitural history museum.
