The emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) is the seicont-maist-muckle livin bird bi hicht, efter its ratite relative, the ostrich. It is endemic tae Austrailie, whaur it is the maist muckle native bird an the anerly livin memmer o the genus Dromaius. The emu's scowth covers maist o mainland Austrailie, but the Tasmainien emu an King Island emu subspecies became extinct efter the European dounset o Australie in 1788. The bird is sufficiently common for it tae be cawed a least-concern species bi the Internaitional Union for Conservation o Naitur.
