Founded in 1923 as the result o a merger atween aw o the toun's clubs, Elche entered the league seestem in 1929, reachin Segunda División in 1934 an La Liga in 1959, feenishin fift in the latter toornament in 1963–64. It wis runner-up in the Copa del Rey in 1969.
