The vegetarian version o the soup has leeks, an micht include mixed vegetables, chicken flavoured meat substitute an/or prunes.[5]

The furst kent mention o the soup is the Orchtertyre House Book (1737), an accounts book that recordit a denner o 'cockie leekie fowlls in it'". The aerliest recipe is frae the Victorian era cuikbeuk writer Isabella Beeton, an is thickent wi "the fine part of oatmeal".[6]
