Arctiidae is a lairge an diverse faimily o mochs wi aroond 11,000 species foond aw ower the warld, includin 6,000 neotropical species.[1] This faimily includes the groups commonly kent as teeger mochs (or teegers), which uisually hae bricht colours, fitmen (which are uisually much drabber), lichen mochs an wasp mochs. Mony species hae 'hairy' caterpillars which are popularly kent as ooie beirs or ooie worms. The scienteefic name refers tae this (Gk. αρκτος = a beir). Caterpillars mey an aa gang bi the name 'tussock mochs' (mair uisually this refers tae Lymantriidae, houiver).
