Aileen Paterson

Aileen Frances Paterson, MBE (née Henderson) (30 November 1934 – 23 Mairch 2018) wis a Scots writer an illustrator,[1] best kent for her series o childer's beuks aboot Maisie MacKenzie the kitten.[2]

Whan yin o her sons de'ed o leukemia at 11 years auld, than Paterson startit screivin aboot 'the adult world from a child's point of view' in the 'Maisie" books in 1980.[2] The first yin to bi pit oot wis Maisie Comes to Morningside in 1984.[3] Paterson uised wirds frae Scots lik 'perjinkt', 'guddle' an 'driech' in her screiving fir comic effect.[2]

She scrieved 32 buiks in the 'Maisie' series,[4] forby ither scrievin sic as in Braw Stories (2005) an Scottish Summer Schools (2007).[5]

Paterson wis gi'en the honour o an MBE[6] bit thocht she didnae deserve an awaird.[2] Her hame toun o Burntisland reportit that the Edinburgh bus company (Lothian Buses) uised her eemage o Maisie oan the nummer 11 bus that gings via Morningside. A TV cairtoon series in Inglis an Gaelic, featurit the vyces o Stanley Baxter an Tony Kearney.[5]
