Thebes (Auncient Greek: Θῆβαι, Thēbai, Greek pronunciation: [tʰɛ̂ːbai̯];[2] Greek: Θήβα, Thíva [ˈθiva]) is a ceety in Boeotia, central Greece. It played an important role in Greek meeths, as the steid o the stories o Cadmus, Oedipus, Dionysus an ithers. Airchaeological excavations in and aroond Thebes hae revealed a Mycenaean settlement an clay tablets written in the Linear B script, indicatin the importance o the steid in the Bronze Age.
