The Svalbard Global Seed Vault (Norse: Svalbard globale frøhvelv) is a secur seed bank on the Norse island o Spitsbergen near Longyearbyen in the remote Arctic Svalbard airchipelago, aboot 1,300 kilometre (810 mi) frae the North Pole.[4] Conservationist Cary Fowler, in association wi the Consultative Group on Internaitional Agricultural Research (CGIAR),[5] stairtit the vault tae preserve a wide variety o plant seeds that are duplicate samples, or "spare" copies, o seeds held in gene baunks warldwide.
