(Reguidit frae Ryal Society o Lunnon)

The Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge, commonly kent as the Royal Society, is a learned society for science, an is possibly the auldest such society still in existence.[1]

  1. The German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina) lays claim to being the oldest continuously existing learned society, because the contemporary organisation traces its roots back to the 1652 creation of what was called the Academia Naturae Curiosorum; the Royal Society was chartered by the crown in 1660, and the Leopoldina was not officially chartered until 1687.
