The rowin competitions at the 2012 Olympic Gemmes in Lunnon wur held frae 28 Julie tae 4 August 2012, at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes o the Gemmes venue, wis offeecially termed Eton Dorney. Fowerteen medal events wur contestit bi 550 athletes, 353 men an 197 weemen.[1]

Aw o the rowin events wur staged at the Eton Dorney Rowin Centre at Dorney Lake near Windsor Castle, 25 mile (40 km) wast o Lunnon.[2] The venue haes aicht lanes an is 2,200 m in lenth wi a capacity o 30,000 spectators.[2][3]


Each competin naition mey qualify ane boat for each o the fowerteen events. The majority o qualification places wur awairded based on results at the 2011 Warld Championships, held at Lake Bled, Slovenie, in August an September. Places are awairded tae Naitional Olympic Committees, nae the specific athletes, finishin in the tap 11 o men's events an tap seiven tae nine o weemen's events, except in the aichts whaur the first seiven in the men's event an first five in the weemen's qualified.[4] Further berths wur allocatit at three continental qualifyin regattas in Africae, Asie an Latin Americae an a final Olympic qualification regatta in Lucerne, Swisserland.


Thare wur aicht events for men an sax for weemen. Events included categories for open weicht an restrictit weicht (lichtweicht) athletes, an twa styles o rowin: sweep, whaur competitors each uise a single oar, an scullin, whaur thay uise twa.

Scullin events include men's an weemen's singles, doubles, lichtweicht doubles, an quads. Sweep events are men's an weemen's pairs an aichts, an men's fowers an lichtweicht fowers.[5]
