A nuclide (frae nucleus) is an atomic species characterized bi the specific constitution o its nucleus, i.e., bi its number o protons Z, its nummer o neutrons N, an its nuclear energy state.[1]

The wird nuclide wis proponed [2] bi Truman P. Kohman [3] in 1947. Doctor Kohman oreeginally suggestit nuclide as referrin tae a "species o nucleus" defined bi containin a certain nummer o neutrons an protons. The wird thus was oreeginally intendit tae focus on the nucleus.
