Marie Louise Élisabeth d'Orléans

Marie Louise Élisabeth d'Orléans (Marie Louise Élisabeth; 20 August 1695 – 21 Julie 1719) wis the eldest an favourite daughter o Philippe d'Orléans Duke o Orléans (Regent o Fraunce for Louis XV). She mairit her cousin Charles o Fraunce, Duke o Berry in 1710 but had no surviving childer. She wis a sister o the Queen o Spain as well as the Duke o Orléans. She wis buried at Ryal Basilica o Saint Denis on 24 Julie 1719. During her lifetime, Marie Louise Élisabeth gained a reputation for scandal. In an irony o history, the next Duchess o Berry, Maria Carolina o Naples an Sicily, was also known for her scandalous behaviour.

The eldest daughter o Philippe d'Orléans, Duke o Orléans an Marie Françoise de Bourbon (an illegitimate daughter o Louis XIV an Madame de Montespan) she was given the names Marie Louise Élisabeth, but signed as Marie Louise. Prior tae her mairiage she wis styles as Mademoiselle d'Orléans or simply as Madamoiselle as the most senior princess o the bluid at the ryal coort o Louis XIV. She wis known as Joufflotte within the faimilie.


It wis decided, with the help of Marie Adélaïde o Savoy, Duchess o Burgundy, her future sister-in-law, that Louise Élisabeth would mairy Charles o Fraunce, Duke o Berry, the youngest son of the Grand Dauphin, at the Pailace o Versailles on 6 Julie 1710.
