It is the coonty seat o Washington Coonty,[6] an the lairgest ceety in a region kent as Wastren Maryland (Washington, Allegany, an Garrett coonties, plus wastren Frederick Coonty).[1] The population o Hagerstown ceety proper at the 2010 census wis 39,662, an the population o the Hagerstown-Martinsburg Metropolitan Aurie (extendin intae Wast Virginie) wis 269,140. Hagerstown ranks as Maryland's saxt lairgest incorporatit ceety.[7]
