This hôtel wis constructit in 1635 bi the entrepreneurs Simon Delespine (d.1680), Martial Baret an Jean Péronne for Macé I Bertrand de La Bazinière, a ryal treasurer. Atween 1653 an 1658, the hôtel wis modified tae the designs o the famous François Mansart. Some o the interior work wis carried out bi Charles Le Brun, then the protégé o Nicolas Fouque. It wis around 1658, that the building wis the subject of an engraving bi the architect Jean Marot.

Hôtel de BouillonEedit

In 1681, the hôtel wis purchased bi Godefroy Maurice de La Tour d'Auvergne, Duke o Bouillon. His wife, Marie Anne Mancini (niece o Cardinal Mazarin) hosted a famous salon at the hôtel where she died in 1714 having lived there since the Duke o Bouillon haed bought it. Jean de La Fontaine, a friend o the Duchess o Bouillon, wis a visitor. Other famous people o the time that went were Madame de Sévigné, Madame de La Fayette, Pierre Corneille an Molière.

During her inhabitance, Marie Anne had Charles Le Brun and André Le Nôtre embellish the house according to her tastes. Her older son, Emmanuel Théodose lived here an many o his children were born here such as future Charles Godefroy de La Tour d'Auvergne, Duke o Bouillon, Anne Marie Louise, the Princess o Soubise an his youngest child, the future Princess o Craon. In 1725, the famous adventuress Marie Louise de La Tour d'Auvergne was born here; she wis executed in The Terror o the French Revolution.

The Duke's son and successor Charles Godefroy de La Tour d'Auvergne, Duke o Bouillon haed the building remodelled atween 1741 an 1744 bi François Debias-Aubry. During the revolution, it wis confiscated frae the La Tour d'Auvergne's an gien tae the state. Their Duchy o Bouillon wis also taken but later gien back.

Hôtel de La PagerieEedit

During the First Empire, Napoleon I gave the hôtel tae Stéphanie Tascher de La Pagerie (1788–1832), the cousin o Empress Joséphine. Stéphanie was gien the hôtel on 1 Februar 1808, after her mairiage tae Prosper Louis, Duke o Arenburg. The décor wis redesigned in the fashionable Empire style.

Hôtel de ChimayEedit

Sold in 1852, the property wis bought bi Joseph de Riquet de Caraman (1808-1886), the cried the Prince o Chimay frae which its present name is derived. Since 1883, the building has been an extension of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, which wis set up in 1648 bi Charles Le Brun as the Académie de peinture et de sculpture.
