The Great Sphinx o Giza (Arabic: أبو الهولAbū al-Haul, Scots: The Terrifying Ane; literally: Faither o dread), commonly referred tae as the Sphinx, is a limestane statue o a reclinin or couchant sphinx (a meethical craitur wi a lion's bouk an a human heid) that stands on the Giza Plateau on the wast bank o the Nile in Giza, Egyp. The face o the Sphinx is generally believed tae represent the face o the Pharaoh Khafra.

It is the lairgest monolith statue in the warld, staundin 73.5 metres (241 ft) lang, 19.3 metres (63 ft) wide, an 20.22 m (66.34 ft) heich.[1] It is the auldest kent monumental sculptur, an is commonly believed tae hae been biggit bi auncient Egyptians o the Auld Kinrick in the ring o the Pharaoh Khafra (c. 2558–2532 BC).[1][2]
