Notes eedit

  1. Staundart modren uisage for the spellin o Saint-Exupéry's surname includes the hyphen. But accordin tae French legal documents an his birth certificate, na hyphen is uised in his name; thus, it is formally de Saint Exupéry, nae Saint-Exupéry. The Armorial de l'ANF,[5] which is a leetin o French nobility, mentions the Saint Exupéry (de) faimily withoot a hyphen. Houever, baith spellins are foond for the author's relatives in the advanced resairch facility Géopatronyme, for records in the Rhône depairtment for the period 1891–1915, shawin twa birth certificates wi a hyphen an ane withoot. Maist o his beuks war published unner his name wi a hyphen; memorial plaques, the 50-franc banknote, an the bracelet he wis wearin at the time o his daith an aa uise the hyphen. The author adoptit the hyphen efter his arrival in the Unitit States in 1941, as he wis annoyed wi Americans' addressin him as "Mr. Exupéry".
