Alexander Selkirk (1676 – 13 December 1721) wis a Scots preevateer an Ryal Navy officer wha spent mair nor fower years as a castawey (1704–1709) efter bein marooned bi his caiptain on an uninhabitit island in the Sooth Paceefic Ocean. He survived that ordeal, but succumbed tae tropical illness a dozen years later while servin abuird HMS Weymouth aff Wast Africae. He wis the inspiration for Robinson Crusoe.
