Torphins (tɔrˈfɪnz tawr-FINZ;[1] Scots Gaelic: Tòrr Fionn) is a village in Ryal Deeside, Aiberdeenshire, Scotland which lies aboot 23 mile wast o Aiberdeen. It is situatit on the A980, aboot 7 mile nor'wast o Banchry, an wis ance sert bi the Great North of Scotland Railway.

The name Torphins mey come fae the Gaelic Torr Fionn, meanin fair/fite hill, or as a corruption o Tor Feithachan, meanin hill o the bogs. Ainither less likely namesake is Thorfinn Sigurdsson, Earl o Orkney, fa micht hae passt throu the airt due tae his pairtnership wi MacBeth.[7] The village wis oreeginally cried Turfins as aerlie as 1747, but bi 1822 had changed tae Torfins afore becomin Torphins bi 1866.[8]
