Scotland Act 1998

The Scotland Act 1998 (1998 c. 46) is an Act o the Pairlament o the Unitit Kinrick. It is the Act which established the devolved Scots Pairlament,[3] followin the 1997 Scots devolution referendum.[4]

The Act haes the rules fir running the pairlament an the ceevil service, the executive, noo kent as the Scots Govrenment, which haes a First Meenister an ither meenisters, appointit bi the Queen, wi the approval o the Scots Pairlament, includin the Lord Advocate and the Solicitor General fir Scotland. It spells oot the pouers o the parliament, nae bi exponin whit it can legislate oan but bi exponin the 'reserved' pouers o the Pairlament o the Unitit Kinrick. It wis passed in the Hoose o Lairds oan 17 November 1998, an royal assent on 19 November 1998.[5]

The first elections unner the new Act wir held in May 1999, an the first pairlament syne 1707 wis called on 1 July 1999, wi Donald Dewar, as the first First Meenister.[6]
