Upon his defection, he wis recruitit bi the drog laird Osiel Cárdenas Guillén an Arturo Guzmán Decena wi aroond 30 ither sodgers tae wirk as the enforcers o the Guwf Cairtel, forming the paramilitary group kent as Los Zetas.[3][4]

He wis killed in a firefecht wi the Mexican Navy on 7 October 2012. His body, housomeivver, wis stolen bi gunmen at a funeral hame efter the navy haed handit the corpse tae the state authorities.[5][6]
