The depairtment o Hauts-de-Seine wis creatit in 1968, frae pairts o the umwhile départements o Seine an Seine-et-Oise. Its creation reflectit the implementation o a law passed in 1964, an Nanterre haed awready been selectit as the prefectur for the new depairtment early in 1965.

In the 1990s an early 2000s, the Hauts-de-Seine receivit naitional attention as the result o a corruption scandal concernin the misuise o public funds providit for the depairtment's hoosin projects.
