Claude Érignac

Claude Jean Pierre Érignac (French pronunciation: ​[klod ʒɑ̃ pjɛʁ eʁiɲak]; 15 December 1937 – 6 Februar 1998) wis a French prefect on the island o Corsicae.

Érignac wis born in Mende, Lozère. In the coorse o his poleetical career, he haed been prefect o seeveral depairtments an owerseas depairtments since 1967. In 1996 he went tae Ajaccio, Corsicae tae take office as the Prefect o Corse-du-Sud. He wis assassinatit at 9:15 p.m. on 6 Februar 1998 in Ajaccio on his way tae a classical music concert bi twa gunmen whu shot him three times wit a 9 mm Beretta pistol. The weapon haed been stolen on 6 September 1997, when memmers o the Naitional Liberation Front o Corsicae (FLNC) stormit a gendarmerie barracks at Pietrosella.[1] Corsican naitionalist militant Yvan Colonna wis suspectit o the killin, an wis arrestit in 2003. He wis foond guilty fae the third time in Juin 2011 fae the murder an sentencit tae life imprisonment.[2]
