Amealco is a municipality in the Mexican state o Querétaro. Its name is thocht tae mean place o springs in Nahuatl. The municipality seat, cried Amealco forby, is locatit 63 km sootheast o Santiago de Querétaro. Its elevation is 2,605 meters abuin sea level, an the annual temperatur ranges frae 15 tae 20 °C. The Hñähñu or Otomí fowk are concentratit in the soothren and eastren pairts o the municipality, in 34 settlements. The main anes are Santiago Mexquititlán an San Ildefonso Tultepec. They number aroond 20,000 fowk, or 36% o the total population. Amealco is the municipality wi the heichest concentration o indigenous fowk, wi amaist 80% o the State's total.
