This marked the seicont time Italy hostit the Olympic Winter Gemmes, the first bein the VII Olympic Winter Gemmes in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956. Italy an aa hostit the Gemmes o the XVII Olympiad in Roum in 1960. Turin wis selectit as the host ceety for the 2006 gemmes in 1999.
